Autumn's officially here and to welcome the season we're excited to share a wonderful line-up of free events and activities throughout October.

From Exeter Cathedral's Autumn Fair and Silent Book Club to Quayside activities and a new season of Red Coat Guided Tours. There's something for everyone, and they're all absolutely FREE to enjoy in Exeter this autumn. 

Autumn Fair at Exeter Cathedral

Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th October

Herald the new season with a visit to Exeter Cathedral’s annual Autumn Fair, taking place in the magnificent Nave. Wander through stalls brimming with artisan food and drink, handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, clothing, and unique seasonal gifts – all from talented local makers. It’s the perfect chance to support small businesses while soaking up the breathtaking atmosphere of one of Exeter’s most iconic landmarks. Best of all, entry to the Cathedral is free throughout the fair. 

Silent Book Club

Wednesday 1st and Monday 20th October

Autumn is the perfect season to curl up with a good book, and what better way than in the company of fellow readers. From October onwards, join the Silent Book Club at Topsham Brewery for their bimonthly sessions and enjoy a relaxed space down on the Quayside. Bring your own book, sip something cozy, and enjoy uninterrupted reading time in great company. 

Quayside Farmers Market

Saturday 18th October

A true highlight of Exeter’s thriving food scene, support your favourite local farmers, and meet the makers, bakers and growers at the monthly Quayside Farmers Market. Set against the historic and picturesque quay, treat your taste buds to the region’s freshest, seasonal flavours and finest local produce.

RAMM

Whether you’re seeking a family day out, quiet reflection, or creative spark, October is the ideal time to explore Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM). Explore award-winning galleries filled with art, archaeology, and fascinating objects from around the world, alongside treasures telling Exeter’s own story. From ancient history to contemporary exhibitions, come and explore for free this month.

Red Coat Guided Tours

This month Exeter’s Red Coat Guided Tours switch to their winter tours programme but there's still lots of fascinating way to explore our city’s rich history, for free! Led by knowledgeable volunteer guides in their distinctive red coats, these tours run year-round and cover themes from Roman Exeter to medieval marvels, secret passages, and stories of rebellion. There's no need to book, simply turn up and join a walk through centuries of heritage. It’s the perfect opportunity to uncover Exeter’s hidden gems while enjoying an engaging, informative experience from the local experts.

Please note, the winter tours programme runs from 1st October 2025 until 31st March 2026.
