About

Tuckers Hall will be open every Thursday and Saturday mornings every week. Opening hours will be from 10:30 until 13:00 on all days. Pre booking to this email address, thebeadle@tuckershall.org.uk will be essential and please only attend if you have had an email confirmation of your visit slot. Visit our website: www.tuckershall.org.uk

*Numbers will be restricted to 2 groups, 6 in each group, so 12 visitors total per 30 min slot. Visits to both areas should take about 30 mins total, 15 minutes in each half of the building, so that is why the visit windows are set at 30 mins total.

In order to keep the groups separate, as required by the CV19 regulations,  one group will be able to view The Hall and upstairs area while the second group tours the lower area, and the audio visual presentations, before the groups swap over. This procedure assumes full houses but a more lenient pattern will be adopted if numbers permit.

Please state your preferred date, time of visit, numbers attending and your visit will be confirmed by return of email thebeadle@tuckershall.org.uk is the email for requests - please do not attend if you have not had confirmation.

Please remember to observe all necessary COVID-19 precautions during your visit, to ensure your personal safety and that of the staff.

Ancient hall of the still existing Incorporation of Weavers, Fullers and Shearmen, one of the craft guilds of Exeter.  With 15thC roof timber and Jacobean panelling this building is a real gem and one of the most important in the city's financial history.

Tuckers Hall is home to The City of Exeter's  important historic woollen cloth trade heritage.

Dating from AD 1471 this stunning building has been constantly renovated, repurposed and even confiscated by a monarch through the centuries!  But its original features still remain, including the 15th century roof timber and Jacobean panelling.

Built originally as a chapel dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virigin Mary, over time it became the home of the Guild of Weavers, Fullers and Shearman of the city  who regular held meetings here and worshipped in the chapel.

The Guilds and Incorporation have existed in Exeter for nearly 600 years . Both the Incorporation and the Hall have a remarkable story with a glorious and continuous history. The Incorporation is recognised as one of the few surviving established provincial Guilds with strong links to associated City of London Guilds.

The Guild can organise special group tours or educational visits of the building for schools by calling in advance.  Enjoyviewing the introductory video, reading about the interesting facts and seeing historic exhibits.  Learn about the origin of some of our everyday phrases - all associated with the woollen cloth trade - and how this building played an imporant part in the financial affluence of the City and country.
