Welcome!
Please do take a couple of minutes to read the details below as it explains what you can expect from our workshops.
With thanks to project funding from Devon County Council, we are able to offer 40 free places for our NEW design 11to18 Workshops. These workshops are held inside FabLab Devon - at the far end of Exeter Library on the ground floor. The workshops are very informal and run by Marcus Brown, our Digital Making Tutor. Each workshop has a different project focus. Please only book ONE workshop as we need to use the funding to work with 40 different young people.
Places are limited to 10 per workshop - tickets are essential - it's not possible to turn up on the day. Please don't purchase a ticket and then not show up on the day. If you are unable to attend please let us know as we will be running a waiting list for each workshop.
About this Workshop:
In our workshops, our Digital Making Tutor, Marcus Brown, will briefly run through how the process works and will give a short demonstration pointing out some of the key design techniques needed for the session. Following this, attendees get to develop their own skills and create a design.
Design Making
Some designs will be made in the workshop and some after the workshop due to the time it takes to make them. See the dates and projects below for details about this. If we hake their design after the workshop, we will let you know by email when it is ready to be collected or we can send it to another Library in Devon or Torbay for collection. It's normally in around a week following the workshop.
Spring 2026 design 11to18 Workshop Dates and Projects:
SAT 17 JAN 1000-1200 - Learn to use Canva and create an A2 poster. We will print this for you in the workshop or immediately after for you to take home. This workshop is suitable for anyone aged 11-18yrs - no previous Canva experience is needed. This workshop is suitable for anyone who has never used Canva or has used it regularly as there are infinite design possibilities.
SAT 31 JAN 1000-1200- Learn to sculpt in 3D. Using a free website, we will take you through the tools and how to combine objects in a 3D environment to create your own 3D sculpture. This could be a creature or simply an abstract sculpture. Following the workshop we will 3D print your design for you to have.
SAT 28 FEB 1000-1200 - Learn how to create a laser-cut box in vector form. Create a design to engrave onto the lid or create a cut pattern that wil cut into the sides of your box. We will use a 2D vector-based piece of free software that you could continue to use at home. We will laser-cut your box for you to keep after the workshop.
SAT 14 MAR 1000-1200 - Using Canva, create a design for your own T-shirt. We will take you through using Canva and how to create a design ready to be printed. We will print it using dye-sublimation and then heat-press it onto your own T-shirt in the workshop to take home.
A few things to note:
Can't attend? If you are unable to attend, please let us know as we are running a waiting list and, we can then offer your place to someone else on the waiting list. Please try and avoid letting us know the day before or not turning up without letting us know.
If we have to cancel a workshop for any reason, we will let you know through email.
Late Arrival - It will not be possible to join the workshop if you arrive more than 15 minutes late. By this time, we are getting into the technical content of the workshop and it's not possible to go back over what we have already covered.
Mobile Phones- Mobile phones should not be used in the workshop. It is ok for participants to have a phone with them but they must not be used in the session and should remain on silent. If you have any further questions - please do email us at: fablab@librariesunlimited.org.uk
Any questions? If so, please do email me and I will come back to you. I work part-time so it can take 2-3 days to receive a reply sometimes.
Many thanks,
Marcus Brown
