King Tut Trio bring together soul-jazz, deep funk and a streak of mod mayhem.
Led by pianist and composer Tom Unwin, the trio features acclaimed double bassist Marcus Vergette-known for his longstanding work with Mike Westbrook-and drummer and multi-instrumentalist Ric Byer.
For this performance, they’re joined by singer and performance poet Mama Tokus, adding sharp, playful spoken word to the band’s soulful improvisations, unexpected covers and infectious electric-keyboard grooves.
Expect accomplished musicianship without the formality: hard-swinging jazz, deep-pocket funk and plenty of surprises. We’re delighted to welcome them to 12 Bar Music & Social.
For fans of: The James Taylor Quartet, Ramsey Lewis, Booker T. & the M.G.’s and Gil Scott-Heron.
