When it comes to a traditional cream tea then in our humble opinion, Devon knows best!
While we're not going to get into the politics of how to layer your jam and cream the proper way, what we are going to do is celebrate National Cream Tea Day (yes that's actually a day on Friday 27th June) by sharing our top picks for where to enjoy this afternoon delight.
Eat on The Green
Celebrate the tradition of afternoon tea, overlooking the beautiful Cathedral Green, at Eat on The Green. Their chef's selection of bite size cakes is served in beautiful, tiered cages and includes their home baked scones with West Country clotted cream and Devon’s finest high fruit jams.
The Ivy
For a cream tea with added glamour then The Ivy Exeter is the place to be, and be seen. Step inside to soak up the vibrant floral decor or take your tea outside where you can gaze across to the magnificent Exeter Cathedral. This one's definitely a feast for the eyes in terms of location and food.
Greendale Farm Shop Cafe
Ok, hands up as this one isn't a cream tea but you can still enjoy the fresh strawberry element serveral different ways at Greendale Farm Shop. From lollies and salad to pie and pavlova, you'll be absolutely spoilt for choice and in strawberry heaven.
Cannonteign Falls
Daring to take the traditional cream tea and (said in hushed tones) creating wonderful different varieties, Canonteign Falls know how to really tempt your taste buds. Stick with tradition or go for estate honey instead of jam and then there's also a savoury option. Our advice... go with the family or friends and try them all!
