Museums & Galleries

For a not-so-large city, Exeter punches above its weight when it comes to museums and galleries. The award-winning Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) was named Museum of the Year after a major refurbishment in 2012, and it continues to offer a fantastic programme of visiting exhibitions, as well as its own collections of local, national and international importance.

Film fans should head to the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum on the University campus, to discover its internationally renowned collection dedicated to our experience of the moving image.

The University of Exeter also has an extensive fine art collection, and exhibition spaces across its Streatham campus. Its sculpture collection contains works by artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Peter Thursby, Geoffrey Clark and Elaine M. Goodwin, and is open to all to visit by following the Sculpture Trail.

Just off the cobbled Gandy Street is the Exeter Phoenix, one of the south west’s leading contemporary arts venues, showing a vibrant programme of exhibitions, performance, film and visual art.
