The Borgen Project, an international advocacy and lobbying organisation fighting to end global poverty, is hosting an information event at Exeter Library. George, a political affairs team member with The Borgen Project, and a student at the University of Exeter will be hosting the event – he is very keen to talk to people in Exeter about this issue!
During the event, George will be leading discussions on the following topics:
- Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Foreign Aid.
- The current state of extreme poverty in the world.
- The strategies the Borgen Project uses to raise awareness about this issue.
- The strategies the Borgen Project uses to make progress on this issue.
- Advocacy work.
- Lobbying Parliament.
- Why people in Exeter should care about helping the world's poor.
- How people in Exeter can get involved with the Borgen Project's work and how people can get involved in and around Exeter with this issue.
- Mobilisation.
- Steve Race (Exeter's MP) views on ODA.
- The history of the Borgen Project and the success they have had, including the millions of people around the world who have positively benefitted as a result of the Borgen Project success in passing life-changing legislation.
- George's role as a member of the political affairs team.
If any of the above sounds interesting, we would strongly recommend that you come along for a chat! In a bus world where there is often lots of issues at home in Britain, it can be easy sometimes to forget about those less fortunate than us, who live abroad and in far worse circumstances. The Borgen Project cares about these people, and if you care too this is a great event to come to.
George would love to talk to many people and show you how people in Exeter can make a difference in relation to this cause. If you are involved in any community initiatives in and around Exeter – we strongly recommend you to attend!
