Alexander Painter uses sax, DIY cello, vocals and electronics to create something that sits somewhere between Arthur Russell's conceptual boldness, the textural innovation of experimental music, and the melodic pull of art-pop. This is music built on improvisation, DIY techniques and an uncompromising creative vision.
A Brighton-based composer and sound designer who's scored for NatGeo/Disney+ documentaries (Clotilda: The Return Home, A Story Of Bones), collaborated with artists like Orlando Weeks, Gazelle Twin and William Doyle, and performed at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. His new album drops mid-October-this is the live premiere.
Expect intricate instrumental arrangements, experimental textures, spontaneous moments and the kind of musicianship that makes you lean in. A performer who treats every element-from composed structures to improvised flourishes-with equal care and intention.
