"It's behind you!"  Panto season is here again - a magical time full of fun, laughter, music and song for all the family!

For many people a visit to the pantomime is as much a part of Christmas as decorating the tree and giving presents!

We went along to Exeter’s Northcott Theatre to get a sneak preview of their latest production of Jack and the Beanstalk – a riotous two hours packed full of colourful characters, jokes, singing, dancing and all-round silliness!

What to expect!

Times are hard for the Trott family; they have no money which means they can’t afford to pay the rent. The only thing they have of any value is their beloved cow Daisy, which they decide they have to sell. But when Jack is sent to market to do the terrible deed, he comes home with nothing but a handful of mouldy old beans – and that’s when the magic really begins!

This production embraces all that’s good about traditional British pantomime - expect plenty of audience participation, outrageous costumes, elaborate scenery, live music and laughs galore!

From a fairy who speaks in rhyme and appears in a puff of smoke, to an evil baddie called Fleshcreep and a 10 foot tall giant, this lively show guarantees lots of fun for all the family.

At its heart is Steve Bennett who plays the hilarious Dame Dotty Trott (the hero’s mother). Look out for the sweet shop scene, packed full of an improbable number of confectionary-based puns, whilst the comic lead, ‘Silly Billy’ is great at entertaining the younger members of the audience.

The singing is great, combining recent popular songs with more traditional ones. The audience even get to sing along too!

Of course as in all fairy tales, goodness triumphs over evil in the end, but the cast certainly have to jump over a few hurdles to get there!
