After the most difficult of years, it's time to have a Christmas like no other - Topsham will not disappoint! Find events to jingle along to, competitions to jump into, and activities with bells on. We’re making the best of memories this year and you’re all invited!

Just four miles from Exeter and easy to reach by public transport or by bike, the town is full of quirky and fascinating independent shops, cafés and antique stores. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Exe estuary, visitors will enjoy a refreshing alternative to the hustle and bustle of the city.

Festive events

There’s no place better than Topsham this year. Whether you’re after unique artisan gifts, indulgent food and drink, a little something just for yourself, or simply to gaze in yule-themed windows.

Full details, updated throughout the build up, are on our Christmas page, but we've put together a glimpse of what we have planned.

The Big Switch On takes place on Friday November 26. The switch is being thrown at 5pm (so pitch up in good time) with live music, then there’s a procession to Topsham Quay to admire the town’s festive lights. Don’t eat beforehand! There’s mulled wine and other seasonal treats on the route plus your favourite cafes, pubs and restaurants will be open and ready to welcome you.

Late night shopping and a Christmas market will take place on Tuesday November 30 from 5pm. Once is never enough so even if you’ve visited us for the Big Switch On, visit us again for what promises to be a unique event. Most of the town’s shops will be open and at St Margaret’s Church there will be a market of craft and food stalls, many of them brand new to Topsham.

Keep an eye out for

Residents and shop windows competitions. The shops will be dressed to impress by November 26 and residents will be decking their own halls by December 5 - so whenever you come to Topsham, linger until darkness to see the town’s windows at their most tinsel-tastic.

Christmas Saturday specials. On December 4, 11 and 18, street musicians will tell you it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas while you shop, and on December 18 - the final Saturday before the big day - stand by for the annual mistletoe sale for Hospiscare.
