Hear the clash of shields and the roar of democracy as we head back to the 5th Century BCE and the world of Ancient Greece. Join Archon the Hoplite in this immersive workshop and experience the drama, discipline, and daily life of Ancient Greece.
Explore its vibrant culture, from art, medicine, and education, and join Archon in hands-on demonstrations. Learn how hoplites fought, what weapons they wielded, and why the phalanx was the backbone of Greek military might. Take up replica wooden shields and spears to form your own phalanx, learning the tactics that made Greek armies formidable, and launch yourself into the session’s grand finale, an epic battle that will secure your name in myth and legend!
Please arrive five minutes before the start of this 1.5 hour workshop. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times (seating will be provided for adults). All activities are ‘non-contact’ and will be mixed primary school ages.
Make sure you pop by the Courtyard before or after your workshop to try on some of our replica Greek armour for adults and children.
Information about accessibility is available on our Access page. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times – seating will be provided
