Join artist James Lake to learn how to build a cardboard kingfisher using simple and reclaimed materials. Your feathered creation will sit atop a recycled wire and cardboard branch or reed. James will then guide you on how to fix the sculpture into a small baseboard that will represent the water’s edge. James Lake has been working as an artist for over 20 years, showing and making work nationally and internationally and has been included in educational resources and art curriculums in a number of countries. He works with recycled cardboard for its immediacy, ease of availability and low environmental impact. Whilst sculpting with cardboard James teaches what he has learnt so far. James says: ‘Working with cardboard has always been about creating and supporting a level playing field for the arts, available to everyone from every walk of life. As a material, you are free to make anything you can imagine.’ There will be a lunch break in the middle of this workshop. You are welcome to visit the Cafe at RAMM, or to bring a packed lunch to eat in the workshop room. Information about accessibility is available on our Access page.
