The First Men in the Moon is a stage adaptation of the HG Wells's Sci-Fi classic, packed with comedy and thrills. A penniless playwright and a scientific genius embark on a journey to where no man has gone before. Will they find life? Yes, but not as we know it.
Written and performed by Mark Jardine, this brand new work in progress stage adaptation of The First Men in the Moon is a riotously comic and thrillingly dramatic ride through a Sci-Fi classic from the pen of HG Wells. Meet Bedford, a penniless, aspiring playwright on the edge of bankruptcy and Professor Cavor a scientific genius on the verge of a discovery that will either change or just as likely destroy the world. From the sleepy English countryside of 1919 the unlikely duo, armed with avarice and ambition, set off in a metal sphere to boldly go where no one-man show has gone before. Will they find life? Probably, but not as we know it. The First Men in the Moon is a show packed with comic creativity, dramatic twists and turns, Selenite moon creatures and a Hermes 2000 typewriter. In space no-one can hear you scream, but you could be screaming with laughter at The First Men in the Moon.
Mark Jardine is a South West based theatre maker whose previous solo performances include How Steeple Sinderby Wanderers Won the FA Cup which received excellent reviews at the Gilded Balloon, Edinburgh Festival: ‘Honest, straightforward, imaginative and a pleasure to be at’ \*\*\*\* Fringe Review.com
